Comprehensive Eye Exams

Your eyes are truly a window to your health! We seek medical attention if our eyes hurt, or turn red, or if our vision becomes blurry. However, often we do not get our eyes examined regularly if we are not having any problems with them. Routine eye examinations are important even if our eyes and vision are fine because many blinding eye diseases have few or no warning signs until they have taken away some or all of our vision.
Dr. Correale’s exams are a thorough evaluation of the eye and visual system. Aside from determining the need for optical correction, our ocular health will be assessed and evaluated for conditions such as cataracts, glaucoma, and macular degeneration. An eye examination may also reveal complications of systemic diseases, such as diabetes and hypertension as well as complications from medications. Her office is equipped with state of the art diagnostic and examination equipment to help her protect her patients from these diseases and unwanted conditions.

OPTOMAP

An exciting technology has been developed that may allow you to have a comprehensive retinal exam without the use of dilating drops. Optomap, a product developed by Optos, is a retinal imaging product that gives doctors a view of the retina without the use of dilating drops.

Optomap is a camera that digitally scans the retina. The test is non-invasive and takes only seconds to complete. Different wavelengths of light are used to capture the image. The image can then be filtered, allowing various layers of the retina to be evaluated. The image can be viewed on a computer monitor and stored for future comparisons.

OCT

Age related diseases like Glaucoma and Macular degeneration [AMD] can cause permanent vision loss and seriously impair your quality of life unless they are caught early and treated effectively.

Our practice features a unique and powerful eye scanning system called SPECTRALIS that can help detect these potentially debilitating diseases in their earliest stages-and help monitor treatment effectiveness. An eye examination is the only way to catch these conditions early so call for an appointment today!

Testimonials

The Glicksman Family

"What can I say about Dr. Correale? She has been my, my wife’s and our daughter’s Optometrist for over a decade. She is a dedicated professional who, unlike many people, knows the value of the personal touch. Dr. Correale is a thorough eye-care provider who takes the time not just to tell a patient the results of an examination, but to explain the meaning of those results in simple, direct terms, and then to listen to the patient’s cares and concerns. This professional, friendly, and caring attitude is shared by Judy, her office manager, and the staff, making patients feel not just welcomed but well-cared for. I have, will, and do recommend Dr. Correale, without a moment’s hesitation, to anyone needing or looking for an Optometrist in whom they can place their full confidence.

FAQ / What to Expect?

Why is my personal background important?

To make a thorough eye exam, our optometry doctor will ask you some questions about your vision and your overall health.

Why does the doctor ask me, “Which is better: one or two?”

While assessing your prescription, the physician will offer you a few series of lenses so that you can compare them and define which allows you to see better. Then, the doctor will give you a prescription. If you can't choose between those options, it means you’re almost done with this part of the exam!

Why is it necessary to know my blood pressure?

High blood pressure can affect your eyes' blood vessels, causing future vision problems.

Why am I asked to follow a light with my eyes?

This part of the examination will help your doctor to define the reaction of your pupils and eye muscles as well as to assess your neurological function.

Is it necessary for the doctor to dilate my pupils during the exam?

It is not always necessary to dilate pupils, it's up to your doctor to make this decision. You don't have to worry if this happens, this process is painless. By doing so, your physician will check your retina more thoroughly. Dilation can also assist in the detection of such diseases as diabetes, high blood pressure, and macular degeneration.
